I am a passionate musician and my enthusiasm for music is contagious. My students appreciate my clear instruction, engaging lessons, and ability to adjust to their needs while maintaining high standards.

The Students We
Work Best With
This studio is designed for violinists who take their growth seriously.

Our ideal students are self-motivated, curious, and deeply committed to becoming better musicians. They understand that real progress comes from focused work, honest reflection, and a willingness to refine fundamentals in pursuit of long-term excellence.

They come to lessons prepared, engaged, and ready to think. They ask questions, listen closely, and take responsibility for their own development.
They are willing to explore new ideas, challenge old habits, and try approaches that may differ from what they have learned in the past.

When progress slows, they stay committed. They understand that mastery is built over time and are motivated by the process as much as the results.

If you are seeking a serious, conservatory-inspired approach to violin study and are ready to take ownership of your growth, this studio may be an excellent fit.

Lyceum Academy for Violin
Pre-College violin Training
Modeled after the rigorous training of programs such as Juilliard Pre-College, the Lyceum Academy for Violin is designed for serious students who seek excellence through disciplined, thoughtful study. Our teaching emphasizes strong technical foundations, refined musical understanding, and the habits required for long-term artistic growth.
Each student receives individualized instruction shaped by their goals, ensuring focused progress and meaningful results.

At the heart of the Lyceum Academy is a belief in the transformative power of music — not only to change a student’s life, but to enrich the communities they serve.
Our approach is demanding yet supportive, rigorous yet fun, fostering curiosity, confidence, and joy in the learning process. By combining high standards with engaging, inspiring instruction, we help students develop both as musicians and as expressive, thoughtful individuals.
About Me.
David is a distinguished violinist, pedagogue, and author of How to Teach the Violin: Step by Step guide for Teachers to Train Advanced Students from the Beginning, a groundbreaking book that equips educators with the tools to train advanced violinists from the very first lesson. With more than two decades of experience as a performer and educator, he has dedicated his career to making Conservatory-level violin pedagogy both accessible and transformative.

A graduate of the New England Conservatory’s Sistema Fellows Program, David studied with master teachers including Sally O’Reilly and Roland and Almita Vamos. His global teaching journey has taken him from the Bermuda School of Music to masterclasses in Poland, Costa Rica, Venezuela, the United States, and Mexico where he taught Masterclasses at both the University of Guanajuato and the University of Veracruz.

On stage, David has performed as Concertmaster of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, has been a member of the Sphinx Symphony, Wichita Symphony, and has collaborated with artists such as Quincy Jones, John Legend, and Smokey Robinson. His chamber ensemble, the Southwood-France Duo, has appeared internationally from Bermuda to India.

Through his writing, workshops, and performances, David advances a teaching philosophy rooted in Suzuki and El Sistema principles. Blending technical mastery, expressive artistry, with social impact he empowers educators and students worldwide to reach their fullest musical potential. He believes joy in life is increased when we give our lives away for the joy of others.
